The region of the Langhe and the Roero has produced two famous, great wines, the Barolo and the Barbaresco , both likewise being produced from the Nebbiolo grape and able to be cellared for decades. These wines are considered bodied and full of character; both display a garnet red colour and a strong bouquet with a harmonious flavour that improves with increasing age. In 1981 these two wines were accorded the controlled and guaranteed designation of origin D.O.C.G. by official decree, which has been given only a total of 15 times. Further Piedmont wines from the Nebbiolo grape are Ghemme , Sizzano and Nebbiolo d'Alba . Like the Nebbiolo of our estate, these are all D.O.C. wines.
The Casa Buffetto estate lies at the intersection between the D.O.C.G. regions of the Barbaresco and the Barolo, without belonging directly to one of these two regions, however. It lies closest to the Barbaresco region, which it directly borders upon. The Barbaresco region begins in the Langhe mountains east of Alba. The zone of barely 500 hectares is made up of the communities of Barbaresco, Neive and Treiso and the margraviate San Rocco Senodelvio. As mentioned, the Barbaresco is produced as a variety-pure, dry red wine from the Nebbiolo grape sort (sub-types Michet, Lampia and Rosé), i.e. it is a pure Nebbiolo.
The Nebbiolo of the Casa Buffetto is a fruity and soft Nebbiolo. It displays a dense ruby red colour with garnet nuances. In the nose it is intense and pleasantly recalls hazelnuts, licorice and wild berries with a note of vanilla, which comes from the wooden cask. It is harmonious, satiny, robust and complex in flavour. It has a strong palette with a smooth finish. Our Nebbiolo is excellently suited to venison, beef and cheese. It can be cellared for a long time, and should be opened for some hours or decanted before drinking, for best results. Wie alle Rotweine von Cassa Buffetto werden die Nebbiolo in neuen Eichenholzbarrique mindestens 2 Jahre ausgebaut, was sie zu Riserva-Weinen macht.
